About Xscap3:
American all-female R&B quartet Xscap3 debuted singing at producer Jermaine Dupri’s birthday party in 1991 and, just two years later, they were the recipients of a platinum album. The quartet was formed around sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, who had grown up in the church — their father, Rev. Randolf Scott, performed in the R&B group the Scott Three during the early ’70s. Rev. Scott began training the girls at an early age, and they eventually made the jump from the church to working talent shows. While attending Tri-City High School in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, the sisters met Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, forming Xscap3 in 1990.
After the group appeared at Dupri’s birthday party, he signed them to his So So Def record label and recorded their debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. The LP broke into the Top 20 thanks to the number two hit “Just Kickin’ It,” and later hit platinum. Their second effort, Off the Hook, also received platinum certification, though Xscap3 smoothed out their sound for their third album, 1998’s Traces of My Lipstick.
While that album was their third effort to go platinum, Xscap3 disbanded and the quartet members went their separate ways to pursue solo work. Burruss penned songs for artists like Mariah Carey (“X-Girlfriend”), Whitney Houston (“Tell Me No”), TLC (“No Scrubs” with Tiny), Destiny’s Child (“Bills, Bills, Bills”), *NSYNC (“It Makes Me Ill”), and more. Tiny also dipped into songwriting, but became most notable for reality shows like Tiny & Toya and T.I. and Tiny. LaTocha embarked on a solo recording career while Tamika focused on acting.
Almost a decade after Traces of My Lipstick, Tiny and the Scott sisters returned as a trio named Xscap3. In early 2018, they issued the EP Here for It on XSCAP3 Entertainment.
About SWV:
With their 1992 debut, It’s About Time, SWV scored a string of Top Ten R&B hits that established them as one of the most popular R&B groups of the ’90s. SWV (their name is an acronym for Sisters with Voices) is comprised of three school friends: Coko (born Cheryl Gamble), Taj (born Tamara Johnson), and Lelee (born Leanne Lyons). All three vocalists sang in church as children, which is where they learned how to harmonize. A demo tape the group assembled caught the attention of producer Teddy Riley, a member of Guy and the father of new jack swing. Prior to SWV, Riley helped establish the careers of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige. Riley’s luck didn’t wear out with SWV — he helped the group craft their debut, It’s About Time, which went double platinum within its first year of release.
The release of It’s About Time was preceded by “Right Here” in the fall of 1992. The single reached number 13 on the R&B chart, but it was the number two hit, “I’m So Into You,” that established the trio as a commercial force early in 1993. It was followed by two number one R&B singles in a row: “Weak” and “Right Here/Human Nature,” a remix of their first single that featured samples of Michael Jackson’s hit “Human Nature.” “Weak” also hit number one on the pop chart, while “Right Here/Human Nature” reached number two. One other Top Ten R&B hit from It’s About Time, “Always on My Mind,” followed late in 1993. “Anything,” SWV’s contribution to the soundtrack for Above the Rim, became a Top Ten R&B hit in the spring of 1994. Also in the spring of 1994, SWV released The Remixes, which went gold by the end of the year. In the summer of 1995, the trio lent vocal harmonies to Blackstreet’s Top 40 R&B hit “Tonight’s the Night.” In 1996, SWV returned with New Beginning, which was preceded by the number one R&B hit “You’re the One.” Release Some Tension followed in 1997, and the group disbanded shortly thereafter.
The following decade, SWV got back together — they signed a contract with Mass Appeal and issued the 2012 set I Missed Us, a smart update of the group’s earlier output. It debuted at number six on the R&B chart and led to SWV Reunited, a reality television series that lasted two seasons on WE TV. Still, the trio’s fifth album, was released in 2016.

Discovered by Michael Bivins of New Edition, 702 is a trio – Irish, Kameelah, and Lemisha—who made their recorded debut singing on Subway’s hit single “This Lil’ Game We Play.” The group released their debut album, No Doubt, in the fall of 1996, preceded by the single “Steelo.” Several other singles from the album followed in 1997, including the title track, “Get It Together,” and “All I Want.” The group returned in 1999 with a self-titled full-length as well as the single “Where My Girls At?”
