About Tamar Braxton:
Tamar Braxton’s entry into the music industry came through her five-member sibling group, the Braxtons, which featured older sisters Traci, Trina, Towanda, and Toni. The quartet released one single, the number 79 Billboard R&B single “Good Life,” for Arista in 1990. Tamar released a self-titled album in 2000 that placed two singles on the charts, including the Top 30 R&B hit “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me,” co-written by Christopher “Tricky” Stewart and Xscape’s LaTocha Scott. Her December 2012 single “Love and War” peaked at number five on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and preceded her album of the same title, released the following September. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. Only two months later, she released the holiday album Winter Loversland. Three Grammy nominations for Love and War and its title track followed shortly after that. As she maintained her reality television profile, she recorded her third studio album, Calling All Lovers, which was released in 2015. In the summer of 2017, Braxton issued the single “My Man” in advance of her album, I Know Who I Am as a Woman.

A seasoned R&B singer and instrumentalist, Stokley enjoyed nearly a quarter-century of success with the group Mint Condition before he made his debut as a solo artist. Stokley Williams was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 15, 1967. Williams’ father was a respected scholar in African studies, and the youngster began learning to play percussion instruments at the age of four. By the early ’80s, Williams co-founded Mint Condition with a handful of high school friends, singing lead and playing drums. After years of playing locally, the band landed a break in 1989 when they were discovered by Minneapolis R&B titans Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who saw them playing a local showcase. Impressed by their New Jack Swing style, Jam and Lewis helped Mint Condition score a record deal, and their debut album, 1991’s Meant to Be Mint, scored a pair of hit singles, “(Breaking My Heart) Pretty Brown Eyes” and “Forever in Your Eyes,” and the group released a steady stream of material from the early ’90s well into the 21st century. It didn’t take long for Williams to earn a reputation as a versatile talent outside of the group. By 1995, his résumé included vocal and percussion credits on albums by Janet Jackson, Sounds of Blackness, Johnny Gill, and Color Me Badd, and later he’d work with the likes of Prince, Elton John, and Toni Braxton. High-school friends Larry “Jazz” Anthony, Mark “Sisqó” Andrews, Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, and James “Woody Rock” Green formed Dru Hill in 1992, named in honor of their Baltimore neighborhood, Druid Hill Park. The vocalists performed at the music industry convention Impact ’96 and were signed by Island not long after. By late 1996, Dru Hill had released their self-titled debut album, produced by Keith Sweat, Stanley Brown, and Tim “Dawg” Patterson. The single “Tell Me” — culled from the soundtrack to the film Eddie — became a Top Five R&B hit and later went gold. Enter the Dru followed in 1998, peaking at number two on the Billboard album chart. Despite Sisqó’s solo success with “Thong Song,” the group continued intact — along with new member Scola — and issued Dru World Order in 2002. Hits followed in 2005, eventually reaching three million in sales. The group released its fourth studio album, Indrupendence Day, in 2010. Their return was the subject of Keith Sweat’s Platinum House, a reality series broadcast on the Centric channel.
